18th December 2007

A strange kind if day (is there any other kind?).  I booked a day off work to go Bridesmaid dress shopping in Lakeside with Ladybird and  her other bridesmaids but alas it was not to be…

I woke (early!) to discover that yet another piece of the Bathroom ceiling had fallen down in the night and therefore I was immediately on the phone to the landlord….surprisingly he actually appeared, along with a claims assessor from the insurance firm and they spent several hours (quite why as my Bathroom is tiny) measuring up and assessing the damage.  The conclusion is that the Bathroom suite will need replacing along with the plasterboard walls, ceiling, tiles, floortiles and electrics.  Brilliant news as I hated the current decoration however it will take up to two weeks during which I cannot live at home…so a hotel awaits me!

Spent the afternoon Christmas shopping which has successfully got me in the festive spirit and I quite enjoyed ambling about sipping a Creme Brulee Latte (this year’s obsession) and trying to select gifts for friends, yay.

Thanks to all those who have contacted me with their own “Quarter-life Crisis” stories… you have been a great help with my research!

Jingle Bells.

Finished work late tonight so decided to indulge in a taxi home…a small treat but those are often the kind you appreciate the most.  Returned to find a grand total of 3 christmas cards of which a single one was for me, it was signed as follows:

 [Mooselet]

 Merry Christmas,

 [The ex and girlfriend]

Quarter-Life Crisis.

This is a topic I have discussed before, not here but under one of my previous blogging alter-egos.

It’s been a while…

…and so much seems to have happened…I don’t have the energy to blog about it all but it’s all good.

Poptastic

dscf0099.jpg

I trotted off to the O2 arena for the Take That concert last night which turned out to be a really fun night.  Having never been to a pop concert before I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect but it turned out to be a fun evening all round.  The O2 is an amazing venue…HUGE.

Afterwards, we took a tour around London (something I have never done from the back of a Landrover before!) and it reminded me how much I love the city and how despite what anyone has said recently, I have made a huge achievement moving down here.

Had a lazy morning today…catching up on sleep and chatting online but feeling i should do something productive with my afternoon.  It’s too horrid outside to take photographs so think I will either continue with the job hunt or scrapbook.

Have lots of interviews lined up over the next couple of weeks so hopefully something will turn up soon…feeling positive about it all!

December Already

Where did the rest of the year go?

Went for a drinks and dinner with a friend from work last night, it was a jolly evening all round and it was good to discover that they have similar opinions to me regarding work.  Had a lie in and woke to find it is a gorgeous crisp day so started the day feeling refreshed and positive.

Off to take some photos this morning and then off to see Take That in concert at the O2 with lovely Ladybird…!

Tomorrow I plan to decorate the christmas tree although not feeling very festive this year…

I am wondering….

why I had to wake up at 5am this and how I have ended up being in work for 7.30am.  Just not right!

Day Two.

Work was actually fairly relaxing today, things have slowed down a bit and I breezed through my to-do list this morning.  As a result I spent the afternoon applying for jobs and reasearching journal articles related to  my possible thesis topic.  I feel really positive about things now that I have my plan in place and it was nice to come home and check things off on my colour-coded spreadsheet of organisation.  Ahem.

Key achievements of Day Two

  • Spoke to a recruitment consultant about some museum opportunities they have that they think would fit really well with my background and interests.  They are putting me through for 3 positions so finger’s crossed that I get an interview.
  • Hit my target of applying for 3 new jobs today…all of them were along the lines of what I really want to do in the future.

Action Plan.

 Warning epic post ahead…

In a weird place right now (and I didn’t mean Watford) and feeling a mixture of things- frustration, restlessness, insecurity yet in some ways I also feel content.

This time of year was always going to be a difficult period for me as memories of last year come back to haunt me but there have been a number of things on top of that to deal with.  However, I have a decision to make, I can go one of two ways…either curl up in a ball and hide or focus on the positives and face the negatives head on.  Ok, so my first instinct is to go into a state of hibernation but that just won’t do.  So today the old mooselet has returned and I have spent the afternoon making lists…things I am happy with, things I want to change, things I must do, things I really shouldn’t do etc etc.  When it’s all down on paper it doesn’t look so bad- there’s a long list of achievements from the past year, an even longer list of things to be grateful for and an equally long list of things to look forward to.  Whilst the negatives contain some sizable issues they consume considerably less space on the page and seeing them in front of me helps to put them into context.
